TweeDee
Three dee seems to be becoming pretty popular as of late, with avatar and quite a few other mega popular movies incorporating it; quite well from what I hear. Personally I thought 3D to be a dead art form, but i'm often wrong about trends. But it appears as If 3D is barging it's way through popular culture's door and giving it some very seductive glances. And now, with nintendo's little foray into the wondrous land of the third dimension(That's a link) it looks like the gaming industry might not be too far away from incorporating 3D effects into more and more games. But that's all what I think, what about you dear reader? What are your views on the matter?

3D is racist!!!! How the hell am I supposed to wear those 3d glasses when I'm already wearing my glasses.
The word you're looking for is "Prejudice". Wearing glasses does not change your race.
An answer to your problem is to spray paint your glasses red and blue respectively.
We glass wearing people are a race of our own!!!!! racist!
And no I won't be painting my glasses ty.
E: luls "glass wearing" =D
3D isn't really a viable technology right now, and I don't see why the film industry is so keen on making it seem like one. And that's the problem, really. Billion dollar films are using 3D, and TV companies are taking cues from them, so they're working on TV's that support 3D. Then you've got Sony and Microsoft taking notice of the trend, saying "hey, let's get on board this bandwagon early, so we can cash in sooner than all those other losers."
Unfortunately, gaming is completely different from film. The levels of potential nausea only increase when you're the one controlling the action on the screen, since it introduces a whole new layer of motion-sickness. The main problem with the Virtual Boy, besides the fact it was unwieldy, heavy, and terrible, was that it often gave people headaches.
3D cannot be a viable future for games until those headaches go away. And, I think companies may realize that the hard way once they start expecting people to buy games for the 3D.
Then again, it may not cost much to release a game with the 3D option, then throw in some surveys after launch to see how many people actually use it. The Arkham Asylum: Game of the Year edition will have that option. Perhaps it's an experiment.
I thought they improved the technology to the point people werent experiencing nausea anymore. Guess not,it wont really stop companies from producing stuff with it as long as people are still excited about it.
WELL I'm mostly looking forward to what comes after this. Something like holo-deck, or something. Cause 3D (as it is now) isn't really very impressive imo, and isn't worth spending any money on.
<---What she said. lol
hah. I saw clash of the titans in 3D and I was very underwhelmed. They had better 3D effects at the terminator movie thing at universal studios.
it's too late, a lot of industry people are so fking excited about it, possible or not, it's going to create a lot of jobs for artists(mattepainters/compositers/modelers etc..)
I semi agree with you guys, but because of avatar it is now the new gimmi... i mean standard
someone did mention making a 3d in which you can focus on just an area of the screen, i actually feel that the screen itself should be the "glasses"
No glasses would really be great!
Recently commercials about 3d TVs have been showed on TV, does anyone know what's 3d about them?
It takes a special kind of TV to support the kind of 3D that Avatar uses, with those weird glasses. 3D is the "hot new" feature for TVs, where it used to be resolution (720p, 1080i, etc). Within a few years, all new TVs will support 3D. For now, it's just a new excuse to pump up the price.
Like Ken Rockwell says, new features are a gimmick, but become an ingenious must have in 5-10 years.
Mark my words, smell-o-vision will have it's day.

It just feels strange IMO, but if they can do it in a good way, it could be awesome...
