Let's Get Literary
Alright. I'm an English Lit. major. As such, I feel I would disservice the thousands I've spent on College if I don't at least think about books some of the time. Also, Manga, comic books, etc. is welcome. Here is my outlet for that.
Books
This is a book:
So is this:
But there are also books not about eating children or Jewish conspiracies! Let's discuss those.
I've just finished reading The Gathering Storm, the newest Wheel of Time book written by someone (Brandon Sanderson) who isn't Robert Jordan. For those who don't know, Jordan died last year, so a new guy's come in to tie up the final novel. Except it's now three novels. And each one is bigger than any of the other books in the series. This was the twelfth book.
That said, every minute of it was some seriously great writing; it was a way better book than any of the others. I feel kinda guilty for thinking that, but there ya go.
What do you guys read?
Have you ever read Mein Kompf? I would like to read it one day, just because. I usually read everything. I really like Clancy, and the occasional King.
this is so my thread <3 i love books. i would be in heaven if i could get a job as a librarian, but i don't really do long educations so it won't happen anytime soon... BUT! i still read a lot. my favorite series, i think, are His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, Tales of the Otori by Lian Hearn, The Black Magician by Trudi Canavan, Twilight series (yes, stfu) by Stephenie Meyer; but MOST of all, Discworld, by Terry Pratchett. I love Vimes and Vetinari to death. in the last month i've read/reread all the Watch books (Guards! Guards!, Men At Arms, Feet Of Clay, Jingo, The Fifth Elephant, Night Watch), The Truth, Montrous Regiment, Going Postal, Making Money, Pyramids, The Amazing Maurice And His Educated Rodents... and i just started on Nation but it's not Discworld so i haven't gotten very far yet. :3
also, i have Mein Kampf at home but i've never read it. it seems boring.
My all time favorite series are the Dragonlance Chronicles by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. I also loved Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm by George Orwell. Everything by Astrid Lindgren is great too IMO : D
I should read more books, I usually read just like 3 books a year. I read manga ofc too, not that much anymore though. I read some comics too, like Donald Duck, Lucky Luke, Asterix & Obelix and all the classics : D
1984 is awesome, but i can't read it. it takes reading like half a page and i'm so depressed i want to blow up myself and/or the world. animal farm is one of my favorite books though \o/
Had to read both for Literature last year. I liked them both, and I like their meaning, but not the most enjoyable.
Yeah 1984 is very depressing, but Animal Farm was amazing. I wrote an essay about it for school.
Orwell is insane. You guys should read his essays as well--especially the one where he completely rips on how politicians speak.
Here!
Have you ever read Mein Kompf? I would like to read it one day, just because.
I haven't, but I've got the same feeling that I should read it. I bet it's creepy.
i hardly ever read any books. though, if i do, it's probably sci-fi, fantasy or manga related ^^
Right now im reading two books from the discworld series and the grapes of wrath.
WOOT!! which ones? :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
i'm reading Only You Can Save Mankind (Discworld) now xD
The only two my local library had. The wee free men and a hat full of sky.
i actually haven't read either D: though the wee free men are in other books, so i know them.. xD do you liek them? :3
So far I do. And im pretty sure a hat full of sky is a follow up to the wee free men. Im hoping I can get the color of magic for christmas.
tbh i don't like the early discworld books that much. well, i loved Mort, but the writing style has become SO much better since then. the later books really are so much better, imo.
I like to read things chronologically if I can.
true! i read all the watch books chronologically cause they're the ones i care about the most :3 buuut the rest of discworld i've read randomly xD
The Colour of Magic is a fucking brilliant book. I'm just throwing that out there.
just finished the wee free men. It was damn good and I plan on reading as much discworld as I can.
discworld is the shit! \o/ \o/ \o/ you liek dwarfs, rite? you should read the books about überwald. lots of dwarfs \o/
I like dwarves more than most fantasy races. Like elves and fairys and stuff. The nac mac feegle are awesome in many, many ways. Im starting on a hat full of sky tomorrow.
hahahaha :3 i'm trying to remember what book they were in that i read.. interesting times, maybe? ah, no, it was carpe jugulum ^___^ they have one in the watch as well though xD
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmh
Finished hat full of sky today, damn fine sequel. It didnt contradict the wee free men much (Just one thing I noticed) And it held up the spirit very well. Im looking forward to reading as much discworld as I can. But for now im starting on the grapes of wrath.
OOh I love books and reading!
I read many genre's including the not-so-popular vampire stuff. Well I would presume it is not that popular here anyway. I do not like Stephanie Meyer so please don't ask. I will tell you I was forced to read those books, and after, I felt like I would rather have read Red Badge of Courage twice. And most know how horrific THAT would be. So yah. I like the Vampire stuffs. I also read Crichton,Rice. OOOh I read a really good book by Mark Dery called the Pyrotechnic Insanitarium-America on the Brink (That was about as pseudo-intellectual as I read lol). I also enjoy Manga. =)
I like Buffy and Angel.
That is the most literary I get.
You also run a website that's success is based on the quality of your prose.
So far the color of magic is my favorite discworld book. But that may be because the only other two i've read were geared towards 14-16 year olds. And im faaaaaaaaaaar too mature for that childish nonsense. I really liked hrun, such a great stereotypical barbarian.
hahaha yeah, hrun is ace. keep going til you get to the watch books :D
for the next month im poor as hell so im gonna have to wait :( But the house gets paid off in february so I might be able to get one or two
\o/ are you still going to read them in order? :D

I am a fantasy fan I suppose. Love tolkein(WHOA,original!)and a few others. Right now im reading rise of the horde. And im going to reread the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy in the future. And possibly discworld....
