Avatar: Legend of Korra details revealed

Avatar: The Last Airbender was a pretty big deal for Nickelodeon. So, of course, they wanted more of the series from its creators, who had only planned as far as the story they told. Instead of writing new adventures for the existing characters, they've advanced the universe 70 years, and a new Avatar has stepped forward - a waterbender named Korra. The show will take place in the diverse Republic City as Korra perfects her bending techniques. It seems the plot will somehow involve anti-bending sentiment. The rest of the available information is after the jump, but be warned, it containers spoilers!

Spoilers if you haven't finished the Avatar: TLA series from here on.

Spoiler: Highlight to view

Korra will be undergoing air bending training, under the tutelage of Aang's son, Tenzin. The fact that a new avatar exists in this world does in fact mean that Aang has passed on, though he is likely survived by his wife - Katara! Amazing! And thus, the extended fantasies of thousands of Zutarans have been crushed. Aang's short lifespan is attributed to the fact he was on ice for 100 years, which took a toll on what would have been a long avatar life.

Cameos from older characters seem like a likely occurrence, since everyone in the show was so young to begin with. Old lady Toph could be a hilarious. This will be a slightly more "mature" show, as well, possibly just in the sense that the characters are older.

There's some more information, though nothing too critical in this interview. Note their reluctance to discuss the live action movie!
